Doors off, top down, and your only key just went into the surf? Around here that's a Tuesday. We cut and program Wrangler keys β JK remote-heads and JL proximity fobs β right at the beach access, the trailhead, or your driveway.
The Wrangler changed keys twice in the last two generations, and the fix depends entirely on which one you're driving:
Rubicon or Sport, two-door or four, soft top or hardtop β the key platform tracks the model year, not the trim. Tell us the year when you call and we'll bring the right blank and programmer. Not driving a Wrangler? We make keys for all makes and models too.
Wranglers lose keys in ways other vehicles don't β they ride open-air, get tossed in a beach bag, and go swimming when nobody meant them to. When the last one is gone for good, the dealer usually wants a tow. We handle it in place instead: we pull the Jeep's secured code, generate a brand-new remote-head or smart key, and initialize it to the immobilizer right where you're parked, whether that's a sandy beach lot or the end of a two-track.
If you still have one working key, making a backup is fast and easy β we clone and program a second remote-head or proximity fob on the spot. Every Wrangler owner on the coast should carry a spare, because a Jeep that lives at the beach is a Jeep that eventually meets salt water. The cheapest key you'll ever buy is the one you cut before the only one you own is at the bottom of the Gulf.
The dealer route for a Wrangler key means arranging a tow off the beach or trail, dropping the Jeep, waiting for a key to come in, and hoping the schedule opens up. We do the whole thing on-site in one visit β verify the VIN, cut the blade, and program the transponder to your specific Jeep.
On-site across Destin, Miramar Beach, Sandestin, Santa Rosa Beach, 30A, Niceville, Bluewater Bay, Freeport, Fort Walton Beach and Mary Esther. Different rig? We key all makes and models.
A Wrangler key leads an adventurous life β sand, sunscreen, salt spray and the occasional dunk. Treat the electronics right and it'll ride shotgun for years. Here's what the crew that programs them wants you to know.
Weak lock/unlock range or a fob you have to wave right at the door? Usually a dead coin cell. Split the remote-head or fob open at the seam and swap in a fresh CR2032 β a couple minutes, a couple dollars. Flag us on a visit and we'll show you the correct orientation so you don't pinch the contacts.
Sun and sand chew up the rubber pad on a Jeep key faster than most. When the buttons quit clicking cleanly or the head gets loose, it's aging out. Get a fresh one cut and programmed before it dies at a beach access with the top already off β we handle it on-site.
This one bites Wrangler owners hardest, because the key rides in an open Jeep. A splash from a wet dog, a swim with the key in your pocket, or a wave over the beach-lot floor mat can corrode the board and kill the fob. Stash it in a dry bag or leave it with someone on shore. If it does get wet, pop the CR2032 out immediately, dry it thoroughly, and call us before corrosion sets in.
A spare made today β while you still have a working key β is quick and inexpensive. Wait until the only key is gone in the surf and you're looking at a tow off the sand. A Jeep that lives on the coast needs a backup.
Tell us the year and whether it's a JK, JL or TJ, and if it's a spare or a lost-all-keys job. Rather talk it out? Call (850) 279-8080 any time.
Consider it locked in. We'll reach out shortly to confirm your Wrangler key. π
Yes. That's the remote-head key on 2007β2018 JK Wranglers (and base JL Sports). If one still works we clone and program a spare quickly; if they're all gone we cut and program a new remote-head key to your Jeep's Sentry Key immobilizer on-site.
Yes. Sahara, Rubicon and 4xe JLs typically use a proximity smart key with Keyless Enter-n-Go. We carry those fobs and program them to your VIN β just tell us the year and trim.
Absolutely β it's one of the most common calls we get on the coast. We come to the beach access or wherever the Jeep is sitting, read the secured code, and program a fresh key on the spot. No tow off the sand.
No. Everything is done at your Wrangler in a single mobile visit. Most spare keys take well under an hour; a full lost-all-keys job takes a bit longer but it's still one stop.
